1st January - National Bloody Mary Day

And so it begins!! I was working at The Fox in Harpenden for the whole of New Year's Day. I had an hour lunch break and so phoned round people in St Albans to go for a drink with me, but alas, noone was around. Matt Howell was on his way back from Essex so we decided that he'd come to The Fox and we'd start our year together. For both of us it was our first experience of a Bloody Mary and it was horrible!!! We hated it, but put up with it.

Taf was in Halesowen with his fiancee! Congratulations on that one fella. His went to the pub with Laurie and her parents and had one too. He also hated it but put up with it. Here's his pic:

Some Info on the Bloody Mary
The basic Bloody Mary contains Vodka, Tomato Juice and is then spiced (using Worcester Sauce, Tobasco, Salt and Pepper). Other ingredients can be added depending on where you get it from. Garnish is normally a stick of celery.

The drink orginates from New York in 1933 and New Yorkers have just starting celebrated the anniversairy of it on the 1st December. However it is worldwide tradition to have a Bloody Mary on the 1st January as it meant to be a good hangover cure that flushes out your system., this is where National Bloody Mary Day being on the 1st January comes from. The drink is also commonly served in the mornings due to cleansing fact.
